Frequently Asked Questions About Air Con

How often should you recharge your air conditioning?

Regular checks will ensure that your air conditioning is working at its optimum performance and makes sitting in your car on a hot day a lot more comfortable, as well as ensuring the windscreen is clear in the winter months.

We recommend that you have your air conditioning system checked for its gas/refrigerant level after the vehicle is two years old and then annually thereafter to keep it running healthily.

If you are in any doubt whether your air conditioning system is operating as it should be, we will be happy to give your vehicle a free temperature test so you can find out whether you would benefit from a recharge.

Why recharge your air conditioning?

Air conditioning is kept cool thanks to the refrigerant gas that circulates in the system, making sure that cool air spreads throughout the entire vehicle. In the time between system checks and potential top-ups of refrigerant, a lot can change like the amount of refrigerant gas remaining in the system.

As well as keeping your car cool in the summer and the windscreen de-misted in the winter, using your air conditioning regularly will help it operate as efficiently as possible.

A drop-in refrigerant gas level will result in a loss of system efficiency.  As air conditioning checks are not always covered in your annual service or MOT, you should have the system checked routinely to ensure its long-lasting performance.

Our expert technicians will restore your air conditioning lubricant oil and refrigerant levels in line with the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation.

Why do I need an anti-bacterial clean for my air conditioning?

Bacteria can build up in the air conditioning system over time if it goes unused for a period of time. This is common for a lot of motorists who do not get the most from their air conditioning over the winter. Often this means when the air conditioning is used for the first time again in the spring or summer it comes with a musty or unpleasant smell.

An anti-bacterial clean will make sure that your car’s air conditioning system is clean and smells much fresher so you can enjoy crisp and cooling air all year round.

As part of the service, our expert technicians will check your Air Conditioning lubricant and refrigerant levels in line with the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation and remove any bacteria and build in your system.

If your system needs recharging, we can carry out the work while you wait too. Plus, you get a free air conditioning temperature test.

How often should I have an anti-bacterial air conditioning clean?

Usually, the first signs that you are in need of having your car’s air conditioning system cleaned are when you notice issues in the way that your air-con runs. Unusual smells coming from the system are usually a good sign that your system needs to be checked and potentially cleaned.

Why have air conditioning clean and recharge at the same time?

We recommend having your car’s air conditioning recharged regularly to keep it in good, working condition, but if you haven’t had your air conditioning system cleaned for a while chances are that it may need treatment from bacteria build-up and benefit from the preventative anti-bacterial measures in our solution.

If your air-con system components have bacteria present, you might notice a distinct smell coming through the vents when your air conditioning is running.  By booking the two services at once you’ll be able to enjoy effective, cooling, and fresh smelling air con in the future.

How often should I have a recharge and have an anti-bacterial treatment?

Air conditioning system checks and recharges are recommended by most vehicle manufacturers after the vehicle is two years old and then annually thereafter, to make sure that the refrigerant gas is topped up at the correct level for maximum system effectiveness.

Anti-bacterial treatments do not have a set time period for when they should be carried out, however, it’s common for them to be required if the air conditioning system has not been used for an extended period, or if unpleasant smells come from the system and in conjunction with any recharge.

As a general rule, if you notice that your air conditioning emits a nasty smell, chances are that it is as a result of a bacteria build-up in the system and it’s time for an anti-bacterial treatment to freshen things up.
